What changes from JPG to PNG

JPG is a lossy format that compresses photos into small files but adds subtle artifacts and cannot store transparency. PNG is lossless and supports an alpha channel, so it keeps edges crisp and can have a transparent background. Converting does not recover detail JPG already discarded, but it gives you a clean, editable base for graphics work.

When PNG is the right format

Use PNG when you need transparency, when an image is mostly text or line art, or when it will be edited repeatedly, because lossless saving never degrades it. File size expectations
